KNIGHT OF THE MONTH
ROGER SONNENFELD

Brothers, I am very pleased to present the Knight of the Month award to our most deserving brother and two-time Past Grand Knight Roger Sonnenfeld. Last month Brother Roger ran our officer elections at the business meeting. At the Officer’s Installation luncheon Roger, his wife, Brother Ken Baurer, and a friend of Roger treated us to live music. Their band made the luncheon a very memorable experience for all in attendance.
Roger’s wife, Therese, had posted a few videos of Roger playing drums at a club in Tennessee. This is how I learned that our council had its very own Keith Moon. I had approached Brother Ken and Brother Roger about playing some music at the Installation luncheon and without hesitation they said they would take care of it.

When I informed Brother Roger that he had been selected as the Knight of The Month he ever so humbly replied that he was very honored but that there were certainly other brothers who contribute more than he does. I responded that the Officers felt that he deserved this recognition. The following are Brother Rodger’s words about his Knight of Columbus experiences:
“I became Catholic in 2000, sponsored by Brother Joe Schulte, joining the Knights shortly thereafter. I was an active volunteer and worked my way through the officer chairs and became Grand Knight for the Columbian year 2006 2007 and then again in 2016 2017.
I have served as a hospitality minister, liturgical minister and have helped my wife Therese minister Communion to Freedom Village twice a month. I try to be an active volunteer for the Knights whenever I can.
Now retired, Therese and I travel quite a bit spending a lot of time in Gallatin Tennessee near our oldest daughter. It was there that I rekindled my love for music and started playing the drums again after giving them up for 45 years. I play with the group, South Tunnel, along with Therese, who plays the keyboard in the band and am loving it
I have treasured the time spent with my brother Knights and have truly been blessed with the friendship and camaraderie I have experienced since becoming a Knight of Columbus.”
Again, congratulations to Brother Roger Sonnenfeld, you have contributed so much of yourself to our council and we are most appreciative.
