Grand Knight’s Report

Tom Sixsmith

Seeing the recent tragedies of the fires just north of us in Los Angeles is a subtle reminder of how quickly life can change. Our hearts go out to the many families affected by this disaster and the difficulties they are faced with. It’s hard to imagine coming back to complete devastation and loss of everything in your home. I read several stories of residents facing this di- saster with their faith in tack and knowing the support of God with be there to help them cope and get through it. We will be designating our black box at the February meeting to raise money to help the victims of the Easton and Palisade fires. Hopefully, we can all dig a little deeper and can add to the funds already collected by our parish.

We had a couple of very successful fundraising activities in January with our burrito breakfast and Brizo Pizza night. Special thanks to all who helped but especially to Danny Reyes and Nick Thomo who worked on the burrito breakfast plus had to do readings for the 10:15 Mass. Ex- changing their aprons for ties to perform their church duties and jump right back in after Mass to cook, wrap or sell. Going above and beyond!

We will wrap up our Intellectual Disabilities-ID Drive first weekend in February with our appeal to all parishioners. Mike Byrne has done a great job as ID Chairperson taking over from Clete Men- ke and we should be on course to meet or surpass last year’s efforts. Thank you to all the Broth- ers that contributed by mail to the letter campaign. We have designated three main benefactors of our funds to go to Special Olympics, The Shea Center and Fish for Life. All very worthy groups that help those with disabilities and their families.

Looking ahead, we will be doing our Build-A-Bed on February 8th in the parking lot. This is con- ducted through Sleep in Heavenly Peace and being financially supported by Supreme. We are the last of their pilot program builds nationally. We are expecting around 50 Knights and family members to participate. We will also be serving lunch to all volunteers afterwards. This should be a really great event and will help 20 needy families.

We will hold a blood drive on February 18. Look for sign-up sheets to schedule an appointment.

Lastly, look forward to more details about our Council putting together food bags for the homeless. This is currently scheduled for Saturday, February 22 from 9AM - noon.
